Analysis and Advocacy colleague at MSF
Analysis and Advocacy colleague to analyse, report and bring action on humanitarian and health agendas
Læger uden Grænser / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Denmark is looking for a colleague with a sharp analytical mind and excellent writing skills to our Advocacy and Analysis Unit (AAU).
The Analysis and Advocacy Officer is contributing to MSF Denmark’s work to ensure that the medical and humanitarian challenges faced by MSF teams and the patients we serve are systematically reported, analyzed and brought to the attention of Danish decision makers, the public and other relevant stakeholders. The Officer will also support analyses and inputs for our public campaigns, communication and program partnership work.
The global humanitarian situation is alarming. Increasing numbers of conflicts and climate inflicted catastrophes are uprooting people from their lives and depriving them from access to lifesaving medical services. At the same time, global humanitarian budgets are being cut, and core values of international humanitarian law are repetitively challenged, making humanitarian work difficult and sometimes impossible.
In this context, we are expanding our teams in MSF Denmark to bring more humanitarian testimonies and calls to action to decision makers, relevant stakeholders and the public in Denmark. With this job post, we are looking for a colleague with passion for the humanitarian and medical mission - and a sharp analytical mindset and writing skills to support our advocacy, communication and fundraising work.
A person who has:
- A degree in Global Health, Public Health, Political Science, Human Rights, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Development, Humanitarian Affairs or other relevant field of study.
- 2-3 years professional experience working for a humanitarian organization or similar (e.g. UN agencies, donors, human rights, government) in advocacy or related field.
- Hands-on experience with research and analysis.
- Understanding of global health and humanitarian agendas and issues.
- Experience from humanitarian or development contexts is an advantage, in particular with health-related projects.
- Language: English and preferably, fluency in Danish.
The concrete tasks and work division between team members in the Advocacy and Analysis Unit will be set, depending on the profile recruited. We are looking for a candidate, who can lift as many as possible of the below core responsibilities – in cooperation with colleagues from the AAU and other teams of MSF Denmark:
- Conduct ongoing analyses of humanitarian and medical topics and provides analytical inputs and concrete action points internally to MSF Denmark teams and externally to the Danish public.
- Produce written products such briefing notes, policy papers, talking points, and speeches on medical or humanitarian topics for MSF Denmark engagements, meetings and events.
- Work closely with the Partnership Team in the Fundraising Department to produce briefing papers, updates and analyses from MSF’s medical and humanitarian work to relevant foundations, companies and other stakeholders, seeking partnerships around humanitarian work.
- Work closely with the Media/Press colleagues in the Communication Department to ensure that relevant analyses from MSF’s medical and humanitarian work inform MSF Denmark’s public campaigns and media engagement.
- Provide well-founded understanding of humanitarian affairs as well as global health issues, such as access to health, and specific disease burdens in humanitarian settings.
- Keep informed on MSF’s medical and humanitarian agendas and political discussions and processes in Denmark.
- Support development and implementation of MSF Denmark’s advocacy events, debates and participation in meetings with Danish ministries, CSOs, foundations, private companies and the public.
As a team member of MSF Denmark:
- Participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating MSF Denmark’s overall strategies and plans.
- Contribute actively towards a positive teamwork/spirit and collective problem-solving attitude as an integrated part of the MSF Denmark.
You can expect…
- To be part of the Advocacy and Analysis Team with dedicated humanitarian and medical colleagues, working together to ensure relevance and high impact of our advocacy activities for patients and MSF teams in humanitarian settings.
- To be based in Copenhagen
To be working in an open and inclusive environment characterised by a high degree of flexibility, trust, and close collaboration between departments in the spirit of what we call the One-office mindset.
