In a global reality where crises, conflicts, and disasters are escalating humanitarian needs to an unprecedented level, impartial, independent, and neutral humanitarian aid and upholding humanitarian principles is paramount. This is at the heart of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Meeting these challenges will require strong, visionary, and value-driven leadership, and MSF Denmark now invites you to seize the rare opportunity to join us as our General Director.
The General Director leads an exceptional organisation in Denmark, where the driving forces every day are community, passion, and responsibility for the core purpose of delivering medical assistance to populations at risk across the world and speaking out against the injustices MSF witnesses.
The General Director oversees an executive team of more than 60 truly dedicated and skilled professionals across HR, fundraising, communications, analysis and advocacy, learning and development, support functions, and volunteer engagement.
Over the past years, MSF Denmark has been on a significant growth journey, with income increases exceeding 75 per cent over six years, influencing Danish decision makers and important stakeholders on core MSF agendas, and adding a notable number of colleagues to the office.
In addition, our amplified voice, consistency in interactions with donors and stakeholders, and a continuously growing collaboration between departments and with the board and association have all been drivers contributing to Danes valuing MSF Denmark as the most trustworthy humanitarian NGO, with a recognisable voice insisting on humanitarian action and adherence to International Humanitarian Law.
Going forward, we aim to maintain and further emphasize our market position with ambitious goals. The General Director is the initiator and driver of the direction we take and work consistently to create common ownership of MSF global agendas, international priorities as well as MSF Denmark’s overall activities, always safeguarding our main purpose: The patients and communities we serve.
The role serves as a key link between the Executive and the Board and contributes directly to the MSF International movement as a member of the full Executive Committee. In this capacity, the General Director ensures that MSF Denmark contributes effectively to medical humanitarian operations, strategy, and governance and maintains and further builds upon the respected role, we have today in the international movement.
Members of MSF Associations can voice their opinions and help define and guide our social mission. In Denmark, the association comes together for formal and informal debates and activities and joins members of other associations at international MSF events. The General Director supports, nurtures and facilitates support to an active and engaged association in close strategic collaboration with the Board.
The General Director has a mandate period of 2 x 3 years as per international recommendations and the Danish MSF statutes.
If you are committed to MSF’s social mission, driven by humanitarian principles, and motivated by the challenge of leading teams and shaping strategic direction in a complex international environment, we warmly encourage you to apply.

We are a movement of doctors, nurses, midwives, and many other professionals. Every year, we provide emergency health care to millions of people affected by catastrophes, conflicts, and epidemics, or who are otherwise deprived of access to a healthcare system.
We go where the need is greatest, regardless of who our patients are and where they come from. We are committed to our principles of neutrality, impartiality and independence and bear witness to what we see while providing medical care to the people we assist. In 1999, we received the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of our work.
